Adelaide bus driver punched, hit with beer bottle

A man has been accused of striking a bus driver in the face with a beer bottle in Adelaide's northern suburbs overnight.

Officers were called to Burton Road just after 6:30pm, following reports of a disturbance on board a bus at Paralowie.

When officers arrived they spoke to the driver who had allegedly been punched in the face by a male passenger.

The man is also accused of striking the driver with a longneck beer bottle.

Residents said they were shocked by the incident.

"Really sad and angry. Everyone deserves to feel safe at work, especially like that - that's not okay at all," one resident said.

"I like the bus drivers. They're very polite, they're serving us even if they're endangering themselves," another said.

Police said they located the suspect, a 39-year-old Kent Town man, just next to where the bus had stopped.

The man has been charged with aggravated assault and was also taken to Modbury Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

He was bailed and will front Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 2 July.

The driver, aged in his 60s, was treated at the scene by paramedics.
