Protesters crash Labor conference

Protesters have been carried off stage by security after interrupting Opposition Leader Bill Shorten at the National Labor Conference in Adelaide.

A man holding a flag opposing the Adani coal mine in Queensland approached the Labor leader as he took to the podium to address the party faithful.

Another group protesting the treatment of refugees was also dragged off the stage.

Mr Shorten told the protesters he would chat to them afterwards, telling the audience it would only help the Coalition.

"I know these people are well-intentioned, but the only people they're helping is the current government of Australia," he said.

Anti-Adani protesters have been trailing the Labor leader’s movements in Adelaide, also crashing a media event at a city marketplace yesterday.

Around 1000 rank and file Labor party members and supporters are attending the three day event, which is an open policy-making forum held every three years.
