Adamson takes DFAT top job

Former ambassador to China and prime ministerial adviser Frances Adamson has been appointed the new head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Ms Adamson will begin her five-year appointment on Friday, having served as international adviser to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the top diplomat in China from 2011 to 2015.

She has also served in the UK and Hong Kong.
