Businessman John Singleton is going into bat for his beloved Central Coast in the lead up to the state election by running his own candidates.

“Singo” made his millions as a salesman and now he's selling the region to the state government.

He said he's sick of a tired looking Gosford main street, with closed and empty stores, graffiti and high youth unemployment.

"If you get rotten leadership, you get rotten candidates, you get rotten representation," he said.

He has demanded both sides of government commit big spending, a new hospital and a university or he'll run four high-profile independent candidates as Team Central Coast.

Mr Singleton has given the government and the opposition until Christmas to come up with a plan and the money or he'll unleash his candidates.

It won't be a battle over preferences: they’ll be fighting to win.

However, Mr Singleton says his name won't appear on a ballot paper - ever.

"The thought of being elected horrifies me,” he said.

“The thought of people voting against me horrifies me.

“The thought of Clive Palmer horrifies me."
