Australia's peak union body will represent the country's workers at a major United Nation's meeting seeking to develop a new international convention on the impact of domestic and other violence in the workplace.

ACTU President Ged Kearney will be speaking at the International Labour Organisation forum in Geneva this week, saying it represents a great opportunity to move towards international standards.

"Violence in the workplace affects far too many people every year, and all countries, including Australia, need to do more to prevent it and help people who have been and are experiencing violence in their workplaces," she said on Monday.
