Action needed on Qld vaccination rates: MP

The Queensland government is risking deadly disease epidemics by not excluding unvaccinated children from child care centres, a Palmer party MP says.

The Liberal National Party on Wednesday night rejected an opposition bill that would have allowed child care providers to ban children whose parents couldn't prove they'd been vaccinated.

Queensland Palmer United Party leader Alex Douglas says the Sunshine State may pay the price for failing to address tumbling vaccination rates.

"Are you all waiting for the polio epidemic?" he told parliament.

"I tell you what, when you wait for that and things like SARS epidemics, the results are terrifying and people start reacting, and the health minister will not be able to help you."

While the LNP rejected the bill, it says it would consider such a ban in the future.
