An academic staff member at the University of Canberra has been accused of sexually assaulting students.

ACT police's sexual assault and child abuse team raided the university's campus in Bruce on Monday, seizing several items.

The university suspended the staff member without pay and started an internal investigation of the alleged "serious misconduct".

The employee has not been arrested and no charges have been laid.

The assaults are alleged to have occurred earlier this year, police say.

"A range of support services for all affected students has been put into place," the University of Canberra said in a statement.

The university is calling on any other students who may have been affected to come forward.

Police expect to interview more witnesses after examining the material seized from the university.
