Suspicious package which sparked lockdown of Indonesian embassy deemed safe

A suspicious package containing white powder, which prompted a shutdown of the Indonesian embassy in Canberra yesterday, has been deemed safe.

The Australian Federal Police were called to the embassy in Yarralumla about 10.45am yesterday after a "suspicious package" was found.

It is believed a letter with white powder inside sparked the lockdown.

A HAZMAT crew, four fire trucks and a police team were among the resources deployed to deal with the threat.

It is understood the embassy lost power at the time of the operation, but it was believed to be related to a short circuit, 2GB reported.

The nation is in the spotlight after the execution of Bali Nine inmates Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

The embassy was subjected to protests on the morning of the men’s deaths.
