ACT tops the list as the best place to live in the world

The ACT has ranked at the top of the list as the best place to live in the world, according to new data released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The OECD used nine measures to compare 362 states and regions across the globe.

If each category is equally weighted, from access to services, education, income, environment, health, safety, housing, and civic engagement, the ACT is the top ranking region in terms of well-being.

The data was interpreted by UpShot, a new website produced by the New York Times in an article entitled "Want an Easy Life? Try Canberra, Australia", although the findings have been debated on Twitter.

Australia's capital rated similarly to Stockholm in Sweden, British Columbia in Canada and New Hampshire in the US, UpShot reported.

Last year, Canberra was rated as Australia's second best city to live in in a survey commissioned by the Property Council of Australia.

ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher said the New York Times article added "weight to the argument that Canberra is one of the most livable cities in the world."

"It is nice to be reminded sometimes that Canberra has a lot of positive characteristics and when you rank us against other cities in the world that we come out really strongly," Ms Gallagher told the Canberra Times.
