ACT teen held for speeding in stolen BMW

A 16-year-old Canberra girl drove a stolen BMW at speeds up to 160km/h before crashing at a roundabout.

ACT Policing said the driver was unlicensed, the car was fitted with stolen number plates and was found to contain property suspected of being stolen.

She'll face the ACT children's court on multiple charges. Her 18-year-old female passenger will face the ACT Magistrate's Court for riding in a stolen vehicle.

Police said the silver BMW was initially spotted at a service station in the suburb of Dickson about 3am on Tuesday.

The vehicle headed off, with the driver failing to stop when police activated lights and sirens.

She reached a maximum speed of 160km/h on the Barton Highway but failed to take a roundabout, damaging the car's suspension.
