ACT police are hunting a burglar whose exploits include stealing a bag of dog chews in one break-in and leaving them at the scene of another.

Over half an hour on Friday morning, the man broke into a takeaway, a pet store, a baby shop and large retail stores Domayne and Harvey Norman, all in the Canberra industrial suburb of Fyshwick.

Closed-circuit television vision of three incidents show the culprit - a man wearing black jeans, a black-hooded jumper and white face covering - arriving and departing in a stolen maroon Subaru Liberty.

In each case he broke in by damaging a front or side door.

The man stole some cash from the takeaway and a wig and the bag of dog chews from the pet store.

He took nothing from the baby store or Domayne, where he left the dog chews.

At Harvey Norman he used the car to ram a rear door. He again took nothing but left behind a bag of Subaru tools.
