Accused Sydney rapist denied bail

A man accused of raping a young woman on a Sydney bridge has been denied bail.

Amir Mohebbifar, 26, was before Sydney's Central Local Court on Friday, charged with several offences including sexual intercourse without consent and aggravated sexual assault.

Mohebbifar, who required a Persian translator, didn't apply for bail, which was formally refused by magistrate Les Mabbutt.

It's alleged the Redfern resident sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman on Anzac Bridge in the early hours of Thursday morning.

He will remain in custody until his matter is mentioned in Central Local Court on March 11.
