Accused murderer of Melbourne greyhound trainer Karen Leek may have intellectual disability

A woman accused of murdering a prominent Melbourne greyhound trainer may have a serious medical condition that could impact the case.

Jessie Moore was heavily pregnant when prosecutors allege she killed her 69-year-old aunt, Karen Leek.

Ms Leek's body was found inside her secure compound in Melbourne's south-east in May earlier this year.

The greyhound trainer's family was dealt another blow when Ms Leek's niece was arrested and charged with her murder.

Ms Moore's legal team told the court today that there is material which suggests the provisional diagnosis of an intellectual disability.

The magistrate suggested the case against Ms Leek's alleged killer could then be fast tracked to the Supreme Court.

However, it will remain in the lower jurisdiction for now, while Ms Moore undergoes further psychological testing.

There was no mention today of Ms Moore's baby, who was due to be born just eight days after her arrest.

She remains in a mental health unit in a women's only prison.
