Academics look to stop violent extremism

Community groups and academics will join to work out the best ways to counter violent extremism through a new university-based research centre.

The Australian Intervention Support Hub will be jointly hosted by the Australian National University and Deakin University and has $700,000 of federal funding.

The government expects the centre will provide an invaluable source of expertise and information for those working to stem the spread of violent extremism, Justice Minister Michael Keenan said in a statement on Monday.
