‘Scream for help’: Abused kitten pulled from river

The RSPCA is investigating after an abused cat was rescued from a river in Adelaide.

The cat was pulled from the water overnight in Fulham in Adelaide's west.

Horse rider Megan Eastaughffe was feeding her horse along the banks of the river when she heard the cat calling.

"It sounded like a real scream for help," she said.

Ms Estaughffe and other horse owners in the area pulled the young cat from the water, uncovering signs of abuse.

"Just so deliberate and awful, I wanted to cry on the spot," Ms Estaughffe said.

"We could see these clipper marks, so all her coat had been clipped off, including her whiskers, all around her face."

The kitten, which has been nicknamed "Splash", was rushed to an emergency vet for treatment.

The RSPCA collected it this afternoon and siad the kitten was currently in "quite good condition".

The incident was reported to police, but the RSPCA has taken over the investigation.
