Abolish road safety tribunal now: Lazarus

Independent senator Glenn Lazarus will try to outmanoeuvre the federal government with his own bill to abolish the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal.
Senator Lazarus has written to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull demanding the abolition be dealt with prior to this year's federal election, after the government indicated its plans would have to wait until after voters go to the polls.
"Owner drivers need a resolution now and should not have to wait months until an election outcome to have this serious issue sorted," he wrote in the letter on Monday, adding he would introduce his own bill when the parliament is recalled next week.
