Abbott behaved well towards PM

Tony Abbott has behaved much better to Malcolm Turnbull than the prime minister has behaved towards Mr Abbott, Peta Credlin says.

Ms Credlin, Mr Abbott's long-time chief of staff, said Mr Abbott had not given Malcolm Turnbull one scintilla of grief during the campaign.

He had done nothing other than fight for his seat of Warringah and help out colleagues right around the country.

"Good on Tony Abbott," she told Sky News.

"Everyone can see after the campaign that Tony Abbott has treated Malcolm Turnbull in this campaign far kinder than Malcolm Turnbull has treated Tony Abbott."

As a former prime minister, Mr Abbott will attend the coalition campaign launch in Sydney on Sunday.

Ms Credlin said that wouldn't be like Labor's launches in 2010 and 2013 when leadership tensions between Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard created a palpable awkwardness.

She said the coalition's conservative base remained a bit bruised from Mr Abbott losing the leadership to Mr Turnbull last September year.

But they had seen how hard Mr Abbott had worked for the return of the Turnbull government.

"They see a dignity in the way Tony has behaved - let's hope the conservative base behaves with the same dignity," she said.
