A Victorian milk bar worker has been bashed over the head with a metal pole as thugs stole thousands of dollars in cash and cigarettes.

Two women known to Igor Sekulic, 27, were invited behind the Doveton store's counter before they allegedly took cigarettes. Minutes later two masked men stormed in.

The pair then allegedly belted Igor over the head with a pole before taking off with the cash register which contained more than $6000.

It follows a number of violent incidents at the shop including a fatal stabbing in July.

Sadiq Husseini, 24, was allegedly set upon as he walked out of a Doveton milk bar after he had tried on a striped beanie about 9.20pm on July 19.

“It’s happened [sic] many times,” said Igor’s father, Zeljko Sekulic.

“It’s hard, about 14 months ago someone attacked my wife by knife,” he said.

However, he also had a surprising message for the alleged attackers.

"We love them, still," he said.

His son is recovering at home but the blood smeared on the floor is a reminder of the senseless attack on his son.

Police don't have an accurate description of the men involved but know once they attacked Igor they made their way towards the back of the store where there was a dark coloured BMW waiting to make a getaway.
