The young female 'mining influencers' taking to TikTok to inspire others to enter the industry

Two Aussie women in mining are using social media to smash stereotypes and inspire a new generation to enter a traditionally male-dominated field.

Central Queensland is a long way from home for Sienna Mallon, but the money in mining convinced the Victorian woman to give up her old job in agriculture.

She's one of the younger ones on the site, but she's worked her way up to become a senior leader.

"I have acknowledged quite significantly throughout my career that I am very young and I'm not as experienced as most of the people that report to me," she said.

"You move out to more remote areas and they're happy to give young people a go, we're hungry.

"We've got the appetite to really do something special."

Mallon's influence exceeds the group of miners she manages in Rockhampton.

One year on from starting her TikTok page, Mallon has attracted 179,000 followers, including many fellow women who are increasingly showing interest in the industry.

"I've had a lot of girls - hundreds, probably even thousands at this point - have reached out asking for advice on how to get in and what they should do," she said.

Fly-in fly-out apprentice electrician Hayley Campbell has also taken to social media to candidly share the ups and downs of her job on a mine site in central Queensland.

"I just want to be able to show to other women that you don't have to go down a certain pathway if you don't want to," Campbell said.
