Parents fed up with Sydney primary school's X-rated neighbours

A community of Sydney parents say they're fed up with walking their kids past X-rated shops on the way to the local primary school.

Liverpool Public School in Sydney's west houses many unwanted neighbours, from adult shops to massage parlours and a methadone clinic.

Susan walks her grandson to school every day.

She's had children and grandchildren attend the school for four decades, but says she's had enough of the seedy shops that surround the school.

"It's not nice to walk up and down here...I only come here when I have to take them to school, other than that we don't walk here," she said.

"I don't think it's a good place for them to have the brothels...I think they should be somewhere else," she said.

"I'm sure they could be put somewhere else that the kids....don't have to see."

Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun banned all such establishments from the Liverpool CBD years ago.

However, according to the state government, sex service premises approved prior to the 2008 ban can continue to operate.

"We have been trying for ages to get rid of them...unfortunately our hands are tied," Mannoun said.

"We need the state government to change legislation to make those buildings and those usages subject to reassessment as time goes by.

"Kids should not have to walk past those things...they should not be near schools."
