Among the headline offerings is season two of The Other Guy on Stan, starring Matt Okine.

"Finding the balance between funny and serious is one of the biggest challenges of the show," Okine told A Current Affair.

Launching on Stan - a streaming service owned by Nine - on Christmas Day is the streaming service's biggest original production to date.

The Commons, set in a near-future Earth, will star three-time Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Joanne Froggatt, best known for her role in Downton Abbey.

"It's a real eye-opener on this side of the world, especially in Australia, the communities are experiencing these problems," Froggatt said.

"Already the extremes in weather with bushfire, flooding, drought. We are going to be in a situation as a world community where people, are pushed from their own homes and their own villages and towns and cities because of the climate, and because it's no longer habitable."

And on Australia Day in 2020, The True History of the Kelly Gang, starring Russell Crowe, will also air on Stan.

Viewers can pay $10 a month to watch Stan on one screen at a time, $14 for three screens, and $17 for four full screens.

Entertainment expert Andrew Mercado said Netflix could have some of the biggest movies of the summer, having opened with the most recent season of The Crown.

"If you've grown up watching Martin Scorcese's great epics about gangsters, you have to be there for The Irishman," he said.

"It stars (Robert) De Niro, and (Al) Pacino, and Joe Pesci, and everyone is saying it's going to be magnificent.

Netflix costs $9.99 a month on its basic plan, $13.99 for the standard plan, and $19.99 for premium.

Apple TV+ has jumped on the streaming bandwagon, with original show Morning Wars starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

Andrew Mercado also pointed to Foxtel hit Lambs of God and Amazon Prime's Jack Ryan and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel as must-see entertainment.

And Disney+ has made a splash with its Star Wars show The Mandalorian, which reportedly cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make.
