Small business locked in four-year insurance battle after floods

A devastating flood destroyed Adam and Alex Griffiths’ Seymour gym four years ago.
Today, they are still battling their insurer over a claim they insist should have been covered as storm damage.
Four years after floodwaters destroyed their gym, Adam and Alex are still fighting insurer Hollard over fine print. A Current Affair
The couple says stormwater entered the business before floodwater from the Goulburn River, causing major damage to equipment and the building.
Five nearby businesses without flood cover were paid out by their insurers, but the Griffiths’ claim was rejected.
The couple has since reopened the gym, but their insurance battle continues.
Statement from Hollard Insurance
We empathise with the Griffiths’ and understand their disappointment with the outcome of their claim, which was upheld by AFCA.
In good faith, Hollard engaged an expert hydrologist to review all information, including new information supplied by the customer, with the findings supporting the original claim decision.
We will continue to work with AFCA should the customer wish to seek further review.
We’d love to hear from you
