'That says everything': Ally's shock as man who almost killed ex with baseball bat claims self-defence in parole bid

When Simone O'Brien tried to break up with man she'd met on a dating website, he almost killed her.

The mother-of-three was bashed with a baseball bat 45 times, undergoing dozens of operations and losing vision in one eye, before she spent months learning to walk and talk again.

Glenn Cable was sentenced to 15 years in jail, but is now up for parole after serving 80 per cent of his sentence.

"I'm a prisoner in my own body for the rest of my life and for him to get out, it just doesn't seem right," O'Brien told A Current Affair.

According to O'Brien, Cable claimed self-defence in his recent application for parole.

"His reasoning for applying for parole was that he used the baseball bat as protection for himself," O'Brien said.

"You've got to be kidding me, he's claiming self-defence? That says everything about the scumbag," A Current Affair host Ally Langdon responded.

O'Brien believes it shows he is still not rehabilitated despite spending more than a decade in prison.

A parole board will decide whether Cable's application is successful.
