A local council in Victoria seems to be trying to find out.
A roundabout in a sleepy surf town has been given a safety boost with more than 80 signs directing traffic.

Statement from Surf Coast Shire Council
Following a review of the intersection signage, we believe there is scope to remove approximately 12–15 posts and 20–25 signs.
We're planning to start removing signs from early next week.
