Queensland community's unholy row over church building

Queensland locals in the town of Dayboro are fired up after discovering their tranquil lifestyle could soon be impacted by plans for a new church building.

Pastor Gary Levens created Dayboro Church in the town north of Brisbane and for eight years it's been running out of the local school.

But now the church is hoping what is currently a paddock could soon become their permanent home.

"This is the one (site) that came up at the time we were looking," Pastor Levens told A Current Affair.

But the idea of a church being built has got neighbours into an unholy row.

The group of residents who oppose the church being built want the council to knock back the church's application to change the zoning on the land.

If it were to change from rural residential zoning it would allow the building of the church to proceed.

"There's huge traffic implications," one local resident said about potential impacts in the future.
