Outback Wrangler faces charges following friend's chopper crash death

"I'd trade all that in a heartbeat to have Willow back," Outback Wrangler Matt Wright told A Current Affair in April this year.

He said those heartfelt words less than two months after the death of his close mate and fellow adventure reality TV star Chris Wilson.

Wilson died while collecting crocodile eggs when the chopper he was harnessed to crashed at the remote King River in the Northern Territory's Arnhem Land.

"Yeah it doesn't feel real still yet, that he's (Wilson's) not going to be there," Wright said.

The reality now is an upcoming court date for Wright after Northern Territory Police issued an arrest warrant for him.

Wright's company operated the downed chopper, which air crash investigators believe lost engine power and hit a tree.

The TV frontman faces several charges including destroying and fabricating evidence.

Wright denied the allegations through a spokesperson who issued a statement.

"Matt strenuously denies any wrongdoing. What happened was a tragic accident that took the life of a close mate," the statement read.
