Not backing down

The courts disagreed, but the self-styled Islamic leader has no intention of following their orders.

Statement from Hawkesbury City Council

Council is continuing to monitor the property as part of ongoing investigations and instructions received from the Land and Environment Court, although Council officers will not be attending the property today, 24 September 2018. There has been no meeting between Dr Kara-Ali and Council staff.

For each Court Order not complied with, the owners could be charged with contempt of court and asked to appear before the Land and Environment Court.

Should the Kara-Alis not provide a response to contempt of court charges, bench warrants could be sought which will authorise the Sheriff to arrest them so that they are brought before the Court to answer to the contempt of court charges.
