Land to be bulldozed for bypass after five generations in family

John cleared the bush and built his home on land that's been in his family for five generations.

Now he's been told it's getting bulldozed to make way for a bypass worth almost a billion dollars.

Full statement from a Transport for NSW spokesperson

The Milton Ulladulla bypass will provide a safer, more efficient road network for local communities, tourists and freight operators in and around the town centres.

A project the size and significance of the bypass will have property impacts, however we are working to minimise these where possible.

During recent design refinements the team was able to reduce the number of properties that will need to be acquired along the corridor.

We acknowledge the impact this news has on families. Discussions with property owners are ongoing as we continue to work through details of property acquisitions.

The preferred strategic corridor for the Milton Ulladulla bypass was confirmed in 2022 and broadly aligns with the bypass corridor gazetted and shown in the Shoalhaven City Council Local Environmental Plan (LEP).

Investigations and design work confirmed the proposed corridor is expected to attract more than twice the amount of traffic from the existing highway in the future, compared to western options.

It will provide greater opportunity to connect to town centres meaning more traffic would use the bypass, delivering safer and more reliable journeys and less congestion throughout Milton and Ulladulla.
