Generous Australians empty pockets for family fighting cluster of cancer diagnoses

Australians have dug deep to raise almost $80,000 for a family consumed by a cluster of cancer diagnoses.

After overcoming multiple myeloma, Queensland father and husband Russell Hunt was recently hit with a second devastating diagnosis - leukemia.

It's a shatteringly familiar disease for the Hunt family - daughter Jasmine, 24, is also undergoing treatment for the same blood cancer.

Just two years earlier, they lost middle child Amber Rose to a rare and highly aggressive cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. She was just 19.

Mother Julie Hunt has been juggling full-time care for Russell and Jasmine, while also trying to keep a roof over their heads.

But thanks to the generosity of strangers, it's not all bad news.

The Hunt family fundraiser has now raised almost $80,000 to help with the burdening cost of cancer treatment.

"Thank you Australia for all the love and support we've received from you, it's absolutely amazing and it's going to make such a huge difference to us, we are absolutely so grateful," Julie said.

In more good news for the family, Russell has just found out he has a bone marrow match.

"The hope is a cure, not only for the Leukemia, but for the myeloma, it is a possibility with this type of stem cell," Russell said.

"Yeah, so fingers crossed ... that's what we're after, the perfect fix."
