Hamish Blake's 'table flip' promise ahead of Gold Logie win

After a two-year COVID-19-induced hiatus, TV's biggest party returned to the Gold Coast last night.

"It feels like the biggest Logies we've had in decades," Karl Stefanovic said.

It was the awards ceremony everyone was waiting for and the celebrities brought the sparkle with them on the red carpet.

"I feel like I'm annoying everyone but (the dress is) very large," Neighbours star April Rose Pengilly said as she walked the red carpet wearing a pink Alin Le' Kal feathered ball gown which featured a crystal bodice.

Early on in the night, Hamish Blake had the little gold statue on his mind.

He revealed to A Current Affair reporter Pippa Bradshaw that if he were to win the top award he'd do a "table flip".

"Now I know they're big tables, but if you can pull it off, that's how you make the highlight reel," Blake said.

He was joined by his Lego Masters co-star Ryan McNaught, who is also known as Brickman, who was sporting a self-made Lego bow tie.

The reigning Gold Logie winner, Tom Gleeson, was also at the event and causing mischief again, admitting he had "the longest tyrannical reign" over the gold statue.

All the celebs were soaking up what could be the last Logies event on the glitter strip, as there is no host confirmed for next year.

However, if it's up to Sophie Monk, she'd rather it stay on the Gold Coast over a return to Melbourne.

"It's so much warmer and more comfortable," Monk said.

But the night was all about honouring one man, the late king of the Logies, Bert Newton.

His wife, Patti, arrived on the red carpet wearing a necklace with his name.

"He's on the red carpet. I always used to bring something when he couldn't come," Patti said, referring to her necklace.

"I'm wearing his cummerbund that he wore to the Logies many times, so I feel like I've got a bit of him with me as well," his daughter Lauren said.

After Blake received the top award for most popular personality on Australian TV he said his next plan was to "try and keep it (the Logie) safe".

"That's the only thing that could really go wrong from here," Blake said.

His concern comes from it potentially becoming a "scandal" if he loses it.

So Blake sensibly took the Logie straight home and left the partying to Brickman, to celebrate the win for Lego Masters.
