Communities and Justice NSW statement on foster care

A Communities and Justice (DCJ) spokesperson, said:

"The safety and wellbeing of children is an absolute priority for the NSW Department of Communities and Justice. 

A strong focus on caseworkers seeing more children, improved practice and evidence-based family preservation programs has resulted in a 42 per cent reduction in children entering out-of-home care since 2015-16.

There has also been a 35 per cent reduction in Aboriginal children and young people entering care in NSW over the same period.

When children and young people do enter out-of-home care, we work hard to find them a safe, loving and permanent place to call home.

"We have achieved record numbers of adoptions from care, and seen a significant increase in guardianship orders.

The NSW Government supports foster and kinship carers through the $7 million My Forever Family NSW program.

My Forever Family work with families to improve their caring experience and most importantly achieve better outcomes for children."
