At Michael and Nadeen Kelly's Heart of Carlton cafe off Melbourne's famous Lygon Street, they pride themselves on '1970s prices'.
Serving hot pasta, baguettes, rice, soup, toasties and coffees, it's just as much about community as it is the cheap prices.
"We don't really call them customers, they're just people and friends now," Mrs Kelly said.

"There's so many people that come here regularly, and you really get to know them well, and you build up a really nice rapport."
For more and more Australians eating out is unattainable.
According to latest research by Finder, three in four Australians have adapted what they eat because of rising costs, while almost 50 per cent have reduced how much they eat out and buy takeaway.

"It's just very nice to be able to do do this," Mr Kelly said.
"It's nice to be able to provide inexpensive meals to anyone and everyone."
