Volunteer plumbers lend a helping hand to farmers in need

Hardworking farmers like Linda and Robert Island are anxious about what the summer ahead will look like.

The couple's homestead in Eugowra the was lashed with one of the most devastating floods to ever hit the NSW coast.

Now they are again bracing for extreme conditions as drought warnings emerge.

"You can't even be guaranteed to have a shower every day, you know, we'd have a shower when it was necessary, you don't flush the toilet unless you really have to," Linda said.

The combined assistance of not-for-profit Rural Aid and volunteer plumbers from the Reece Foundation is helping farmers like the Islands sleep easy, installing a series of 22,000-litre water tanks to homesteads in need.

Ashleigh Sheridan from the Reece Foundation said for some families the tanks will mean the difference between temporary accommodation and being able to move back home.

"So some of the families who were affected by the floods are currently unable to live on their property because there isn't access to water," she said.

"It will help us be able to survive here without being deprived of all the things that people need," Linda said.

"It really will, a huge difference and we really appreciate it."
