“Walking into that courtroom today and seeing him brought in, it was gut-wrenching to know that he can even walk in there where she can’t,” Shaw told A Current Affair.

“The fact that, you know, he’s just sitting there breathing the same air, it was horrible.”

Shaw said her cousin’s murder was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her, including her son who carries her ashes with him.

“It’s devastating even just to hear the stories, but he goes to sleep with (the ashes) at nights that he’s having a bad time and he’ll take her everywhere he can,” she said.

“It has had a huge impact on not only my family and her friends, but the whole wider community.

“It was such a big deal.”
