Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews resigns after nine years in top job

After nine years in the job, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews' resignation took just 28 minutes for him to call it a day.

He told the country: "When it's time, it's time."

"Doing this job has been the honour and privilege of my life. And I have worked hard every day, never wasting a moment to deliver our positive plans to put people first to do what matters," he said.

Andrews' resignation came as a shock not just to voters but to fellow politicians.

Some adored him, some despised him - a sign of his divisive leadership.

"He's been the Don Bradman of politics, he's just been awesome," Labor MP Danny Pearson said.

"At a time like this, it's also important to face the facts and the facts are that Premier Daniel Andrews is standing down today because things have fallen apart," Opposition Leader John Pesutto said.
