COVID-19 infected Gold Coast woman 'surprised' by hospital's lax treatment

A Gold Coast woman who tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19 says she was "very surprised" about the treatment she received after becoming unwell following her return home from the US.

Alisha, 28, became so unwell after her journey that she had to call an ambulance to take her to a local hospital. That is despite the fact she has shown no symptoms just 24 hours beforehand.

Once at the hospital, Alisha said she was put in with the general public to get tested, before being given some paracetamol and sent home.

Alisha told A Current Affair she only just received information about her situation today, despite being tested last Friday. The Health Department told her that they are now seeking to make contact with all of the people she has come into contact with, including patients who were at her GP at the same time as she was.

While she said there have only been three people she has come into close contact with since returning home from America, she took five flights, trains, buses and Ubers on her journey.

It was during her international transfer Alisha believes she contracted the virus.

Alisha's sister who picked her up from the hospital after she was discharged has since become ill and has been tested for coronavirus, but is still waiting on the results.
