A Current Affair reporter Alison Piotrowski has been caught up in the coronavirus control measures, forced to go into isolation after a weekend trip to New Zealand.

Tracy Grimshaw spoke to Ms Piotrowski from the Sydney airport, who said she "certainly wasn't expecting" Prime Minister Scott Morrison's announcement that all travelers must isolate from today.

She heard the announcement eight hours before the midnight cut off time, while at a winery.

Ms Piotrowski said she tried but it was simply "impossible" to get back before as there were no flights available.

"We're all planning to bunker down at home," she said, but admitted she still felt unclear about whether she could go outside at all, considering her apartment is very small.

Although her two-year-old daughter wasn't with them on the trip, she too will be forced into isolate as she can't spend the time away from her parents.
