Communities divided over rise of data centres

AI is being used by millions of people every day to answer some of our most burning questions.

From scientific discoveries, autonomous navigation in cars and simple things like “what should I make for dinner?“.

But what you don’t see is a data centre working hard to generate an answer.

A decade ago, there were just a handful of purpose-built data centres around the country.

Now there’s 162, with NSW and Victoria housing the most.

To satisfy demand, there are hundreds in the works, but not everyone is happy.
