Buyers demand answers from developer as off-the-plan builds sit empty for years

It's the Aussie dream: a block of land to build your own house to raise a family.

But for 154 families who purchased land in the Clydesdale Gardens development in north-western Sydney, that dream has turned into a nightmare.

They handed over their life savings in good faith to a developer, but three years later, the Marsden Park plots sit empty.

And when A Current Affair went to find answers, it led us down a big rabbit hole.

Developers need to meet the obligations under the contracts they've signed with buyers.

Buyers who are concerned should speak with their lawyer or conveyancer as a first step.

Developers cannot unilaterally cancel contracts using sunset clauses without approval from the Supreme Court.

If the court approves a cancellation, it also has the power to award compensation to the affected buyer.
