'Mum's life was worth a lot more': Taser victim's family responds as former cop avoids jail

"Mum's life was worth a lot more than two years community service."

Those are the heart-wrenching words of Clare Nowland's daughter Kerry.

The 95-year-old great-grandmother Clare died after being Tasered by police officer Kristian White in May 2023.

After being found guilty of manslaughter, today the family learnt White won't spend any time in jail.

Through his solicitor, White said he was "relieved and thankful" to avoid a prison sentence.

A Current Affair, White said he was "relieved and thankful" to avoid a prison sentence.

"I know the Nowland family have suffered deep grief and anger, and for that I'll be forever sorry," he said.

"I just wish I could take it all back.

"My family and I hope to get on with our lives, but I want you to know that Clare Nowland and her family will always be in our minds."

Kerry told A Current Affair she was heartbroken, disappointed and sad with the judgment, but was pleased for White's wife and children that he will not go to jail.
