Vale A Current Affair sound recordist Chris 'Ando' Andersen

For 18 years, Chris 'Ando' Andersen has been instrumental in telling some of A Current Affair's biggest stories - not by being in front of the camera but by capturing sound.

Across his almost two-decade career with Nine, Ando brought a smiling face and a calm presence to some of the most important news stories of our time.

"No one had a bigger heart than our Ando, he was just brilliant at his job," A Current Affair host Ally Langdon said.

"I remember meeting him at the football World Cup in South Africa 16 years ago because he had this smile that started with his eyes.

"If he smiled it was contagious. Everyone wanted to work with Ando, we all loved him."

Tonight we pay tribute to the Brisbane-based sound recordist, who sadly passed away last Wednesday while on holiday with his beautiful family.

Ando will be sorely missed by all of us here at A Current Affair.
