Why Carols By Candlelight is 'really special' for singing star

But those who eagerly await aren't just in the audience.

"It is one of the greatest times of the year, and I think the carols this year are going to be sensational," singer David Campbell told A Current Affair.

"We've got like three major casts that are going to be here, Jason Donovan's here, we've got all the carols favourites again."

Donovan said it was "really special" to be back.

"For me, I haven't been home for Christmas for a long time," he said.

A Current Affair also spoke to friends Kayla and Kanji, who sleep out under the stars every year the night before the carols so they can be first into the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.

"Rain, hail or shine, we're here ... a hundred per cent worth it," Kayla said.
