Wildlife hospital forced to fight for survival after funding cuts

Delvene Delaney found a new mission in life after losing her famous husband John.

She had come to the rescue of the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, which was facing closure before Delvene and John's foundation helped out with a sizable donation.

Moved by the work the hospital does to save injured native animals, Delvene took a hands-on approach by volunteering.

But the hospital faces a new challenge after New South Wales state government funding was taken away.

The previous Coalition government had pledged $6 million in funding over four years, but that's been rejected by its Labor replacement.

That decision has the unique mobile wildlife hospital fighting for its own survival.
