Man released from prison after breaching AVO protecting Sophie Monk

A man has been released from prison after he was hit with fresh charges for breaching a court order protecting TV star Sophie Monk.

Brian Rapley was charged last week after he allegedly breached an apprehended violence order (AVO) made by a magistrate to protect Monk when he showed up at her manager's Sydney office.

He was refused bail during a hearing last week.

After a week behind bars, Rapley today fronted a new magistrate regarding the charges.

"I'm yet to get a clear understanding why on earth you made the approach," Magistrate Paul Mulroney said.

"This is not rational behaviour."

The court heard Rapley was the alleged lovestruck victim of catfishing by a Monk impersonator but the magistrate rejected that excuse.

He was given a 12-month community corrections order and the AVO was kept in place.
