Australia's next government could lay in the hands of NSW electorate

Chances are whichever political party wins the Eden-Monaro seat will win the government.

That's the way it's been in the electorate of Eden-Monaro for living memory.

"Yeah, we like that we're important," said a local on the streets of Braidwood, a tiny town in the voting region of Eden-Monaro.

"Makes us feel a bit important to be the bellwether seat," another said.

The politicians know its importance too.

"That's why it's looked at on election night," Kirsty McBain of the Labor Party said.

"It represents middle Australia," the Liberals' Dr Jerry Nockles said.

Eden-Monaro is the size of Switzerland, taking in the beachside towns of the New South Wales South Coast, the Snowy Mountains, the City of Queanbeyan and a good slice of rural farming in between.

"It represents all slices of Australian life," Dr Nockles said.

The issues are many and varied, ranging from lack of affordable housing, poor quality NBN, climate change and concerns about the effects of the war in Europe.

So, will it be Albo (Anthony Albanese), or will it be Scomo (Scott Morrison) these people will decide upon?

Judging from the hundreds we spoke to, one thing is certain — it will be close.
