Actor's murder mystery twist

Actor Troy Coward is used to plot twists and turns but a real-life drama he's facing has taken an unexpected turn in his eight-year fight for compensation from WA Police.

In 2012, Mr Coward was the landlord of a Perth apartment where his tenant Stephen Cookson was executed, his body dismembered and dumped at sea.

Mr Coward had nothing to do with the grizzly crime but he lost a fortune, allegedly because of the WA police.

Forensics ransacked his apartment then refused to pay for the damage and properly clean up toxic chemicals it left behind.

"From the ripple of all of this, I have lost multiple properties and my business and everything I ran successfully for a number of years," Mr Coward told A Current Affair.

The former boxer claims WA detectives put him in touch with a lawyer to handle his compensation claim, which was ultimately rejected.

A second lawyer took the case on, but Mr Coward discovered he was married to a WA police superintendent.

In May, that lawyer dropped the case soon after A Current Affair highlighted Mr Coward's plight on air.

"I was very surprised. But in this eight-year journey nothing surprises me anymore," Mr Coward said.

Now celebrities and everyday Australians have got behind Mr Coward in his battle for justice.

They're led by boxing great Jeff Fenech who is calling on the WA law fraternity to help Mr Coward.

"Justice was done to the people who committed the crime, why should he pay for it, why should he be punished for it?" Mr Fenech said.

Married At First Sight stars Michelle Marsh, Mike Gunner and Sean Thomsen have all voiced their support through selfie videos.

International words of encouragement have also been voiced by celebrity TV plastic surgeon Dr Ray and a movie producer relative of Wild West legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.

Many people see Mr Coward's struggle as a chance to give back to a mate who has given so much to their community through the actor's Beacon Fight for Life mental health charity.

"I've always been a big believer it's not what happens to you in life it's how you deal with it so yeah I've just got to keep on plugging away," Mr Coward said.
