Peter Dutton is liar who is running a shrill, unhinged scare campaign. Labor will never water down our visa cancellation laws.

Labor strongly supports the laws in place to cancel or refusal of visas on character grounds under Section 501 of the Migration Act.

These laws already allow the Minister to stop criminals from coming to Australia and allow the Minister to kick them out if they’re here.

If the Immigration Minister suspects that a non-citizen does not pass the character test, or there is a risk to the community while they are in Australia, they should use the powers they have under the Migration Act to deny or cancel their visa.
