Blockbusters sparking a cinema revival

With so many streaming services around, you hardly need to leave the lounge to watch your favourite movie blockbuster.

But it's time to rewind.

The cinema blockbuster is back and Barbie is bigger than Ben-Hur.

Hayden Orpheum general manager Alex Temesvari said lines were long for the film's opening weekend.

"We literally had lines going everywhere in weird, wacky directions and queuing people outside," he said.

"It was the highest grossing weekend in the 88-year history of the venue."

General manager of Cinebar in Brisbane David Taylor agreed.

"It's like all of our Boxing Days have come at once," he said.
