A living hell

Every day, Terry, Rudi and their neighbours fear locals, many of them teenagers, who roam the streets – stealing, destroying properties, and picking fights with anyone who stands up to them.

Everyone is entitled to safe, secure and sustainable place to live. Across Queensland, the Department of Housing and Public Works, as the State’s biggest landlord owns and manages 54,320 social housing dwellings, providing homes to many of the most vulnerable people in society.

The department’s Fair Expectations of Behaviour Policy, designed to ensure everyone gets a fair go, also strongly backs the rights of a community to enjoy peace and quiet.

The department endeavours to assist tenants to modify their behaviour so they can sustain their tenancy and live in harmony with their neighbours.

Under Privacy legislation, the department is unable to comment on individual cases.
