Melbourne Cup 2023 draws a colourful crowd
More than 84,000 racegoers descended on the gates at Flemington Racecourse today to witness the race that stops the nation.
While forecasted storms kindly held off until the late afternoon, race day wasn't completely without drama, with dozens of pro-Palestine protesters temporarily blocking a busy intersection near the entrance gates.
Trackside, champagne was a favoured accessory for many as punters put their best foot forward in colourful frocks and suits.

On the track it was jockey Mark Zahra who celebrated his second Cup win in as many years under Irish Gelding Without a Fight from trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman.
